This is probably one of the best movies. I remember orginally seeing it while in college in the early 70's in the student conference lounge.

This version is better then the remake. On the other hand the remake has an interesting alternative ending.

This is probably my all-time favorite movie. Romero created the modern-day zombie film and they all strive to attain this level of perfection. Great zombie movies are mirrors held up to society. The characters in them represent large parts of the public (or, maybe even parts of one psyche). In this film, Romero has said, the decay of the American social fabric of the 1960s was the subtext of the plot. Watch this movie and prepare yourself for the World War Z! Highest recommendation!!!

Hi there, I'm trying to find out about how public domain can be used. If Night of the Living Dead is in the public domain, can a clip from it be used in a commercial television production, for example for The Discovery Channel? I would appreciate any info anyone has about this. Thanks!

When its public domain you are supposed to be able to do with it what you want.

This is one of the greatest films of all time because it was so revolutionary. It was one of the first films to have an african american as one of the heroes and I think Romero is one of the best Directors of this century just for his views.

Amazing how such a low-budget cheapjack movie shot in Pittsburgh could be so groundbreaking and influential. Mainstream Hollywood should have/could have learned many lessons from NOTLD, but they still think a billion bucks' worth of CGI and big-name stars can substitute for good writing and good direction.

in response to banaidog's comment, i see it only as further proof that the environment created by profit-based industry is not only NOT conducive to the creation of art, but in fact erosive to such creation. poo poo on those who think that free distribution = no profit-incentive = no art!

THE defining zombie horror movie, one of the corner stones of cinema. all time classic, must-see. chilling horror flick, highly intelligent plot. groundbreaking for it's time, yet timeless subject and suspense. stands out from the rest even after 50 years, only the director himself was able to reach a comparable level of originality, precision, shock-value and substance again in horror films ("dawn of the dead", 1978).
