Little Lord Fauntleroy--First an incredibly popular book in the late 1880's (still in print)!!! This film is well worth your time.
A young American boy inherits a British title and he---then his mother---help soften and humanize his hostile old grandfather. Freddie Bartholomew plays young Cedric Errol and his American streetwise friend is played by Mickey Rooney, another popular youth of 1930's and 40's films.
Sir C. Aubrey Smith is the crusty old Lord (he played similar British aristocrats and was knighted later for these kind of roles as the gruff yet good hearted British authority figure.)
The mother of the "Little Lord Fauntleroy" is played by Drew Barrymore's grandmother, Dolores Costello.
And this movie, with then-major 1930's stars and character actors, is a well-done David O. Selznick production.
My only criticism is---wish someone could sharpen up the black & white resolution!
