Not best, still good. Funny as hell.

5-star good only in terms of being so hilariously inept. The opening credits (including the title)belong to a completely different movie. Ed Wood wrote this one. There is no revenge. There is no Doctor X, for that matter. It's a mash of elements from "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Frankenstein" (including hoisting the monster -- a humanoid version of a venus flytrap and another Japanese plant, with genetically altered glands and pumped full of vitamins -- to the roof of the lab during a lightning storm, and assorted villagers carrying torches-- with some "day of the triffids" thrown in for good measure. The score, such as it is, almost never matches the on-screen action, and often sounds like it was swiped from a roller-skating rink. Let's not forget the topless female divers. And why does the damn rooster crow so much? I have seen many, many bad movies in my days; this one is...staggering. Download it and share it with your friends. And be prepared to laugh your a**es off.

A classic from the first jump-cut to the last overreaction.

Well, you wanted Z grade and you certainly got it. This is the absolute pits as far as moviemaking is concerned: zero production values, zero acting, merde story, ugly actors. It always puzzled me why people got involved with movies like this. I found the answer eventually of course. Why bother putting on decent movies in a 50's drive-in when 99% of your youthful audience is busy with "other things" and wouldn't know if you ran a blank screen for 90 minutes. Cheap, nasty and absolutely hilarious!

Yes, for all Ed Wood fans, this was written by the anti-master himself. The last of his screenplays to get produced that wasn't a porn movie. The movie was filmed in Japan (I don't know, looks more like the Philippines to me) in 1970, maybe 1969. Ed's original title was "The Venus Flytrap." This got mutated into "The Devil's Garden," which became (probably through a faulty translation) "The Double Garden," which makes no sense. The "Revenge of Dr. X" title comes from a silly VHS release where the bootlegger slapped on a bogus title. He also added bogus credits which have nothing to do with the movie (and acutally are the credits for "Mad Doctor of Blood Island," a film that has nothing at all to do with this one.) Still, an enjoyably silly monster movie with plenty of overacting by both James Craig and the guy wearing the ridiculous rubber "plant monster" outfit.

Despite its name, there is no actual Heardle Doctor X, nor is there any revenge plot, which contributes to its notoriety.
