THE PLAYHOUSE (***1/2)- Buster was mending his broken ankle from The Electric House, and made this very un-Buster short. The beginning's a dream where Buster uses some cool camera trickery to play EVERYONE in the theater (the old married couple, the minstrel group, a mother and child). That's worth the price of admission, alone. Then Buster wakes and normal theater hijinks ensue. Buster replacing an escaped chimp is another highlight.
THE BALLOONATIC (***)- Seemingly unrelated bits are sewn together in this hit-and-miss two reeler. I think Buster just wanted to use the hot air balloon (and clever title).
MY WIFE'S RELATIONS (****)- Buster accidentally marries a large, gruff woman. He honors the (accidental) vows when he meets her hulking family. They abuse him until they hear he's an heir...
THE ELECTRIC HOUSE (****)- Mixed-up diplomas have botanist Buster acting as an electrician on his dean's house. He goes overboard, to say the least. Buster (in real life) mechanized the stairs, library, dining room, etc. This is a typical Buster commentary the modern age. During filming, his slapshoe was caught in the escalator and snapped his ankle. Ouch!
