John leaves his mother in the small town family home to go and work in the big city for a firm of architects. He works hard, earns enough money to send regular cheques to his mother & gets noticed by the firms CEO, and so gets promotion. A slacker co-worker, Steve, sees John doing well and embarks on a campaign to get some [or all] of John's wealth through gambling and also with the aid of his 'good friend' Madelon, a night club singer/siren/gold-digger. John steals from the firm to pay a debt to a bookmaker [or else!], and it goes down hill for John from here on.
This film suffers badly from the strict censorship of the time and feels like the soul has been sucked out of it. A shame as the performances are acceptable and the quality of the print is good. One can only imagine the rages the screen writer and director had once the censor had finished with the big, sharp scissors. Video 8 Sound 8.
